Some of Our Happy Clients...

"I made the difficult decision to tear down my longtime home in Rosedale in order to build new. It was very important to me that the materials in my home be diverted from the landfill and have a second life. I was thrilled to hear about The ReUse People just in time. Kathy walked me through the process and was instrumental in bringing together the needed team including appraisers and demolition companies who were capable and willing to deconstruct rather than simply bulldoze. Kathy was responsive and stayed in touch with me and my general contractor throughout the process. Financially I came out ahead as well which was a great bonus and it made the decision a no-brainer. I'll be moving into my new home in October."

"Last year I bought a property adjacent to mine with a 2,000 SF lakehouse that needed to be demolished. I was concerned about nails, glass, splinters and other small pieces of debris in the yard where kids walk & play without shoes.  And there were so many reusable materials that I hated to see it just get thrown away. Enter Kathy Robinson with The Reuse People of America, Inc. While I paid more upfront for the deconstruction, I came out ahead because of the tax benefits of donating the materials. Not only that, it was good to know the materials went to a worthy cause –helping someone own their first home or upgrade their current home because my doors, windows, cabinets, sinks, ceiling fans, hardware, etc., were reused instead of taking up space in a landfill. When I saw the itemized list and photos of all the items Mark Hansen of HDR, Inc. had salvaged, I was amazed by the number of reusable materials that had piled up – several truckloads! As a bonus, my oak trees were protected even though they grew over my home in some places; all limbs were intact. Mark finished the project in a timely manner and the site was completely tidy! By choosing deconstruction, it can help enable home ownership, save money on disposal costs, and keep good materials out of the landfill. Why would anyone not choose deconstruction?”

“We loved the home we’d lived in for more than twenty years. Thanks to The ReUse People, the entire structure has a new life, and the resulting tax deduction more than covered the cost of removal. Kathy Robinson managed the entire process, and was always there when we needed her.”

"We were amazed about how many things can be reused. In Austin, we're seeing a lot of people who are demolishing old houses, but if they are able to realize that yes it may be a little more expensive than demolishing, but it's really going to a good cause and the tax benefit helps. It's really exciting just to know that you're not just demolishing and it's going to go somewhere besides the landfill."

"We undertook a major remodel last year which included replacing a number of high-quality windows that were in excellent condition. We did not want them to go to the trash pile so I looked online to find an alternative and discovered The ReUse People. Kathy Robinson explained how their program diverts reusable materials from the landfill. Kathy also identified many other items we could donate from the remodel instead of sending them to the dump. She arranged for a professional appraisal of the items to be donated and it gave us a sizeable donation. She also coordinated with the appraiser and head office to make sure we received the appropriate IRS documentation for tax purposes. All was done very professionally. We felt so much better because we could donate the many usable items from the house. It is a pity that most contractors still cannot appreciate that things can be reused. We removed many items from our trash that the sub-contractors were throwing away. We tried to educate them and maybe years from now more people will reuse building materials. But we are glad the ReUse People exist and are showing a better way."
